About the Project
Working in CLCs can be a diverse and rewarding experience, introducing students to a different range of clients and legal problems, and this can be even more so in RRR areas. NACLC hopes that through this website and program, law graduates will see CLCs in RRR areas as a great place to do their PLT placements and a real career option!
This website is designed to give law graduates and CLCs the information they need about the Law Graduates for CLCs in RRR Australia Project. The project is in its first year during which NACLC is conducting a feasibility study for a more extensive placement program, which includes a pilot project in partnership with the ANU Legal Workshop. Feedback about the project is very important.
Recruitment and retention are major problems faced by CLCs in regional, rural and remote (RRR) areas and deeply affect the capacity of the centres to serve their communities and provide clients with adequate legal access. In addition, law graduates are often unaware of the opportunities they may have to complete Practical Legal Training (PLT) work placements in RRR CLCs. Many law students complete their PLT courses on line or part time. PLT students from RRR areas may prefer to complete their PLT work experience in an RRR areas. Other graduates may want the opportunity to experience what it is like working in a RRR area and in CLCs.
